BIGGEST SURPRISE IN MARKETING TRANSIT: Our recent public opinion survey; it was a pleasant surprise to see that the majority of residents think transit is not only important, but that they would support an increase in sales tax to fund improvements.

BIGGEST CHALLENGE IN MARKETING TRANSIT: Constantly finding new and innovative ways of marketing transit as the traditional means, such as newspaper, radio, television, are no long affordable or effective.

COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT: I am church photographer and fundraiser for the American Red Cross to benefit such causes as Hurricane Katrina victims and Relief for Haiti. I also mentor various staff members as they begin their careers or are facing transitions in their lives.

PERSONAL BACKGROUND: I grew up in Queens, NY and attended public schools in New York until we moved to St. Petersburg, Florida in 1969 where I finished high school and college. My husband and I had two children. My son works in the construction industry and my daughter teaches Spanish to middle school students and will be awarded a Masters Degree in Foreign Language this spring. In addition to my work at PSTA, I put my creative energies to good use in my photography/marketing firm. My specialty is helping small business owners create a presence on the Internet without spending a fortune. My clients range from the beauty salon industry to the medical field.

CHILDHOOD AMBITION: I wanted to marry Elvis Presley. If he wasn’t available, then Paul McCartney was next! Seriously, during my childhood, I often thought I would be a social worker.

INSPIRATION: I am inspired by all of the magnificent women that I surround myself with.  I am also inspired by the large number of women who work in the transit industry today, compared to 1974.

FAVORITE BOOK: I have three favorites: The Bible, “The Color Purple” by Alice Walker and “I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings” by Maya Angelou.
